Tip #23 - Cutting Options for Invitation (A2) Size Cards from 12x12 paper

This week I pulled together a set of 4 short videos. The topic? How to cut Invitation (A2) greeting cards from 12x12 paper.

This topic has been on my “to do” list since I did a video for 8.5 x 11 inch paper. Someone reminded me (thank you!) that this topic isn’t covered yet – so finally, here we are.

Invitation Size Greeting cards now come in 2 sizes. The formal, traditional size is 4.25" x 5.5". But a new, smaller version is increasing in popularity - 4" x 5.5". When you make casual use cards from 12x12 paper, you may find the new standard enticing!

12x12 is a bit more complicated that 8.5x11 paper because you have more options. All the videos are up and live on youtube, and I will blog about 1 topic per day until my blog is up-to-date.

Creative Memories products are great for photo projects - but also can be used to send someone a cheery hello. Here are the products I used for this video series:

Today I am sharing the 1st video. In this overview, you can compare the choices of Invitation cards you can make:

1) Standard Full Size A2 or Invitation Size Cards

2) New Size Portrait and 1 Landscape Invitation Size Cards

3) 3 New Size Landscape Invitation Size Cards

The “New Size” means you can make 3 Invitation Cards instead of 2 from a 12x12 paper. Great for casual use, but when in doubt go to the full size traditional standard!

Fabulous (Aries) You Card

Happy Birthday, Aries! We need the Leaders of Zodiac.

The card is made using the Creative Memories Fabulous Power Palette digital kit, and the Nataional Scrapbook Day 2011 Fun and Fab CD.

To make this card you will need:

1) A printout of the 3 4x6 photographs you can download free, in print quality, with the links below. If you want to make both - make 2 copies of the "Happy Birthday" picture. (See below for freebie 3 downloads).

2) Tape Runner – 646236 (purple) or 631424 (blue)

3) Trimmer (optional, but very nice) – 646206 (purple) or 624969 (blue). Don’t have a trimmer? Ruler, pencil and scissors will get the job done!

4) Scissors – 629419

5) Black (or Color) Pen – 646221

6) Foam Squares – 608729

1) A No. 6 ¾ size small business envelope for your card, (optional). Even your big box stores will have these.

To make this card:

1) Choose the card front – Fabulous Aries or Fabulous You. Trim the 4x6 photograph to 3.5x6. I trimmed ½ inch off the 4” side using my paper trimmer.

2) Use tape or glue to adhere the card front to your card.

3) Start to work on the 2nd photograph now. Choose any of the 3-D options you like. Or none, you choice! Lol

4) I used the U pop up on both of my cards, but I cut the U in 2 different ways. See which look you like better:

5) Use Foam squares to attach your cut out pieces on the card front.

6) Cut or trim the Happy Birthday printout, if you are making a birthday card. You can tape it into the card with the tape runner, or even the foam squares! Foam squares “yells” Happy Birthday! Lol

7) Write your message, sign your name, and mail your card. You will put a smile on someone’s face for sure!

Easy Heart Borders with the Love Struck Maker Punch

I posted a video on youtube for the Love Struck Maker Punch. One punch of the Maker makes a 4” border, 2 punches makes an 8” border and 3 punches makes a 12” scrapbook border.

Love Struck Maker Punch Basics:

(Note: all measurements rounded to quarter inch for ease).

1) The punch is 4.25 inches long

2) The front and back of the punch have an “embossed” area that shows the cutting length of the punch.

3) The sides of the punch show an embossed area to show cutting width:

4) Note the paper guide behind the cutting width is approx. ¼”.

5) The bottom of the punch is shown here. The edge cut of the hearts is about 1/8” from the edge of the “cutting rectangle”.

How to Make a 12” border with the Love Struck Maker Punch:

1) I like to face the back of the punch towards me.

2) For 12” borders, paper strips of 1.25” give a “centered” punch look.

3) To have a ¼” border on the top and bottom of my strip, I like to line up the paper edge to the border on the top of the punch. This sets the paper about 1/8” past the “embossed” area shown on the punch front.

4) For 12” borders, I punch by lining up to 1 (bottom) edge, then the other (top) edge. Then I use the embossed area on the punch to do the last (3rd) punch in the middle of the paper.

5) Here I layer my border with a 1.5” inch width of Charcoal Vintage Paper (retired) and 1” strip of white paper.

For an 8” page border:

1) Repeat the steps for a 12” border. Do the top and bottom punch. Done! No middle or 3rd punch required. The punches line up nicely. Note: I used a 1” border strip of brown cardstock for this project:

1) Need some basic info on A2 greeting cards?

    2) Punch once (1x) on a 1.25” or 1” strip of paper. Trim the border down to match the punch area (about ¾”).

    3) Mat with a slightly larger pink paper.

   4) I used the Creative Memories Creative Cuts Blade and Mat system to create a large heart and swirl accent. No electronics required.

Happy Birthday Pisces (or Flower) Card using Nancy O'Dell Hummingbird Kit (Freebie)

This month's free ( freebie ) astrology card can be for a Pisces in your life - or anyone. I made 2 versions that are available on the same free download. Take your pick, or do both! :)

I used the Hummingbird Kit by Nancy O'Dell. I was drawn to the patterns and boundary-less blending of the colors. The Hummingbird Kit "looks" Pisces to me. Well, it turns out Nancy O'Dell IS a Pisces! No wonder! lol

These are full size pictures that will print 4x6 pictures beautifully! :)

To make the card:

1) Download the 2 free jpg downloads on my blog.

2) Print them as 4x6 pictures. If you send them to a developer, specify color correction OFF.

3) Trim the background piece to 6” x 3.25”. A bit less than 3.25” makes it easier to add to your card.

4) Glue the background to your card or postcard. Your card should be small business size:

5) Trim the ribbon (optional). You can add it to the card with glue or foam squares. You can add brads to the ribbon before you glue it onto the card.

6) Trim the decoration pieces you wish to use on the card. I use my personal guillotine trimmer. You can use just the rose or saying, if desired. Play! :)

7) Glue the pieces onto the card using tape or foam squares. I use tape for “Happy Birthday” and foam squares for my picture.

8) Send out your card with a smile! :)

My Review of the Creative Memories Creative Cuts System - I like it :)

Hello and welcome! I will return to the Disney cards next week. My computer sound needs to be repaired - and funny, it is necessary to hear the video to make sure it is OK! oi.

So today...

This is my review of the Creative Memories Creative Cuts System. Waiting a few months since the product launch helped me to compare using the system from summer to winter weather. Here in the desert, the results were very different for me. Now I can summarize all of my opinions. Wonderful, huh? Lol
In this video:

1) I show the basic parts of the Tool. The 2 basic parts are the cone and pen.

2) I talk about the pros and cons of this system. The pros and cons are very similar to the pros and cons of the Fiskars template cutting system.

3) Training is essential for you to really enjoy this product. Creative Memories has a training video for the public on youtube.com. I watched it twice! Before I started cutting. This video was mandatory for me because I have never used the Fiskars system. You can see the video here:

4) Accessories for this tool. I show the distressing tip and the red blade that lets you use the Custom Cutting system with this Creative Cuts tool. People with manual medical issues seem to really like the grasp of the pen over the CCS blades.

5) There is a tool box you can buy that will hold all of the tools and templates. I do not show it in this video.

6) I show how to install the red Custom Cutting System (CCS) blade onto the pen. Once the blade is installed, it works like the blades in this video:

Some questions you may have:
7) Can I use Cricut blades in the Creative Cuts tool? No. Not until someone or you invent a blade holder that works with the tool. Let me know as I am interested! Lol

8) Can I use the Fiskars cutter blade replacements in my Creative Cuts tool? No, the Fiskars blade ends are covered in plastic. Creative Cuts requires a metal tip because it holds the blade with a magnet.

9) Can I use Fiskars templates with my Creative Cuts tool? YES! It takes some practice but YES!

10) A Glass Mat – I find this necessary in the summer. Where I live the regular temperature is over 100 and the plastic mat has too much drag. In the winter, the regular CM mat works great for me.

11) I demonstrate a cut with the alphabet stencil.

Disney Princess Greeting Card - from Creative Memories Photo Album Kit.

In this video I make the Disney Princesses card. It is very easy to do!

1) I start with two 4x6 mats from the Creative Memories Disney Photo Album Kit. I am sorry to say the kit has sold out on the website. But your consultant might have it! I can try to locate it for you as well if you loooove this!

The other Photo Album kits make great cards also.

2) Trim the 4x6 inch mat to 4x5.5 inches or smaller. Your choice.

3) Tape mat to the front of your A2 size greeting card. Need more help with that A2 size card? I have a video here:

4) Use a journal box on the inside of the card or leave it blank. Pick a premade mat from your photo album kit!

5) Trim and add the journal box to the inside of your card, if desired.

Disney Cards - Minnie Mouse, Princess and Pooh

Creative Memories is running a sale in February 2011 for the Milestones Picfolio Photo Album kits. Unfortunately they have sold out of this Disney kit in less than a week! Oi! A made a mini series of Disney cards and I will post them anyway.

Aquarius Birthday Card - Creative Memories Lovable Kit

Hello and Happy Birthday Aquarius!

I created 2 designs for an Aquarius birthday card and I couldn’t pick one over the other. So with the same download you can make either card. No, Aquarius is not a mutable sign. And Yes, I am not an Aquarian. If I was I could make up my mind. :) lol

This month I used the Creative Memories Storybook Creator Software with the Lovable kit. The Lovable kit comes as a digital kit and a paper kit. Here I am using the digital version.

I am using this kit for everything lately. (Soon I’ll post my hamburger theme recipe card – I used the same kit). I bought 3 new Valentine theme kits but I really love this one. I really like the pinks, red, blue with the browns. And I like the fun “hand drawn” look it has.

Completed my Creative Memories Digital Endorsement Program. Yeah!

I have an extra news item to be happy about. I finally found the links to the CM Digital Endorsement Program on the CM Consultant Website. I decided to "just do it" and complete the training.

It took me the better part of my afternoon yesterday, but YEAH! All completed. As of Sunday, January 16, 2011 I am CM Digitally Endorsed. I don't know how often the official list is updated. I tried to snapshot my certificate but could only do it through video and then snapshot, so the quality... well...not so good:

I hope to add the endorsement logo to my official CM website and my blog soon.

PicFolio Page Sizes Guide

Hello and Happy Friday!

If you are using a PicFolio slide album for your current 2011 scrapbook or for a Project 365, 52 or 12 (day, week or month! Lol) you may want to make your own mats.

I do buy the Picfolio paper kits (very modest cost!) BUT I like even more paper. I like to trim my photos and add Scrapbooking extras. So I use my larger 12x12 page kits to add more matching paper.

I can’t remember all the measurements on the page for very long. If I take the project out once per month I prefer to have a memory jogger.

Sooo. I made a pretty digital 4x6 photo for the left and right sides. For each opening I added the measurements. Now I can use the guides to make more “page kits” without taking the actual album with me. Or taking out my ruler (again! Lol)

PicFolio Milestone Albums - what is included (since 2008)

Hello.

I bought my 2nd PicFolio Milestones Album in 2010. The writing on the packaging of my Picfolio does not match the CM current contents. So in this blog post what you can expect to receive with your Picfolio purchase.

The external packaging on my Picfolio (2010) states:

"It (Album) holds up to 160 photographs and includes a bookplate, 32 title bars and 16 journaling boxes."

The changes are listed here:

Bookplate - Is the journal box inserted into the 1st page (front inside cover) of the Picfolio. The Aqua album has a nice blue bookplate.

"A bookplate, also known as ex-librīs [Latin, "from the books of..."], is usually a small print or decorative label pasted into a book, often on the inside front cover, to indicate its owner. Simple typographical bookplates are termed 'booklabels'"

32 title bars - are included as claimed. They are perforated, you need to fold and pull apart. The paper is double sides. Very nice!

16 journal boxes - are no longer included in the Picfolio.

CM#141- Capricorn Birthday Wishes Card

Hello! Welcome to Card #2 for AnswersintheSky.com – here is a Capricorn Birthday card.

What I learned making the video? Jim Carrey, Betty White and Kid Rock (and Gangter Al Capone) have the same birthday! Jan. 17^th. I am not sure how helpful that info is in life. Lol If You are born on Jan 17^th, you have plenty of famous company J

The card is a standard small business size card. Most people have the 6 ¾ size envelopes in their homes already. I have a video on how to make the actual “card” here:

The card is 3.5” x 6”.

To make the card front:

2 ) Start with the card background. Trim the height to 3.25”. Use a paper trimmer or scissors.

3) Add 3 brads or other decoration to the card front. I use 3 mini brads that are lead color, because Capricorn rules lead as a metal. I also use a paper piercer to make the holes. You can use a thumb tack instead.

4) Move to the 2nd jpg picture. Trim the Capricorn clip art to have a border size that you like.

5) Add foam squares to the back of the clip art and position onto the card.

6) Your card is ready! Enjoy!

Here is a bit more detail about the card. The contents are from Creative Memories unless otherwise indicated (creativememories.com)

1) I created the images using the Storybook Creator Plus software.

2) Frost Digital Kit. The colors – brown is ruled by Saturn (Capricorn) and Capricorn gems turquoise and Lapis Lazuli match the blue in the card!

3) Capricorn clip art from Zodiac03 font. Free from dafont.com. I covered the clip art with digital paper from the Frost kit.

4) Card title is done in the Bodini MT font.

5) The movie slides or backgrounds are also the Frost digital kit.

6) Music free from Danosongs.com. The song I use is “Crowd in the Palace”.

Start a 2010 Year Album with an Event List

It is now January 2011 so it is time to start my January through December 2010 scrapbook album.
In a previous blog post (video) I showed how I used the Picfolio album to make a current year’s photo album. Now I can use that PicFolio album to then create a scrapbook. So this year I am a little ahead.
This is how I started my yearly albums before 2010:

1) Find a piece of 8.5 x 11 paper.

2) Make 12 boxes – 6 rows and 2 columns. Label the boxes starting at January and ending at December.

3) Put the year at the top of the page.

4) Take a day or 3 to list every event in 2010 that I want to record.

5) I don’t care if I have photos for the event or not. I list all the events in the correct month.

When I am happy with my listing, I use the listing to locate and organize the photos and keepsakes. Photographs are usually not all together. My photos are sometimes lurking:

1) On my main computer. Easy and done.

2) A memory card that I swapped out into another camera or device.

3) A friend or relative’s camera – I _meant_ to get copies of their photos for an event and forgot until now.

4) A laptop that went on a trip and I forgot to transfer over the photos.

5) Images or photographs I’ve bought from vendors.

6) Anywhere!

Not only do I use the list to find my Scrapbooking items, it also shows me the order of my album. I start in January and go in order.

The list also shows me if I want to scrapbook a page for an event I don’t have photos for, I need to leave room at that month’s location.

The list does NOT go in my scrapbook. It doesn’t look very pretty by the time I am done! Lol BUT I could write another list in a nice format and use it for a table of contents for my scrapbook :)
I used the Creative Memories Storybook Creator Software to make a nice look form for this event list. the digital kit is the Cheerful Collection.

Idea to Keep a Current Photo Album in 2011

It is almost the New Year 2011. This is the time of year I get busy organizing for Scrapbooking and photo albums.

Last year I read an idea to keep a current year’s scrapbook album for 2010. How? Using a Picfolio album. It is a slide in album. The idea is to work on it once per month and actually have a photo album for the current year. Then, at the end of the year, use it to create your “real” keepsake album.

The advantages of this method:

1) I can keep a Picfolio album up to date working on it 4-5 hours per month.

2) The family looooved! Having a current photo album. Usually I wait till the next year to make the scrapbook.

3) It trained me to take vertical and horizontal photographs (I stopped doing this).

4) I know the photographs that will print the best. I really can’t tell just looking at the screen.

5) My goal was to make it look “nice” but not “wow” because it is a temporary album, I’m using it for 1 year. Less stress and fast.

6) The album itself is good quality and looks nice to show family and friends throughout the year.

7) Great way to use the remaining pieces of paper kits, so decoration costs are minimal. These 2 pages use a Discover Power Palette paper. (photos with white out to protect those who go to Jr. High lol)

The issues I encountered (What to fix this year! lol)

1) In a slide album, the pieces are not glued in. The boys quickly learned they could get a better look by pulling pieces OUT of the album. Lucky for me, they are old enough now that I can tell them "no" and it holds even with me out of the house. But if you have younger children - watch out! They are very smart at any age! lol

2) I thought I could use 1 Picfolio album for the entire year. You really need 1 for every album you are trying to replace. I usually take 2 albums worth of pictures per year, so I needed 2 albums.

3) Missing 2 months of monthly activity, I forgot to keep up. It is best to make it a 1 night a month project and stick with it. ( I stopped because I needed to wait to order another Picfolio to keep going...)

Would I do it again? Yes I plan to. I know to have a 2nd album by May so I don’t lose my momentum. I don’t know if I’ll re use the 2010 albums right away or rotate 4 total albums (2 for each year, covering a 2 year span.)

A Great Question - Will you take the photos and embellishments out of the picfolio and do an actual scrapbook layout?

My Answer - Good question ! Everyone does the transition differently, I think. I plan to not reuse anything. I'm using a home photo printer for the photos - not sure how much I trust this HP printer in the long term. For me, the Picfolio is a short time photo album, an idea of how good my photos are for events, and a memory jogger. I am thinking of moving the picfolio items to a paper album and lettting my boys have it for their "own" album. I would love to hear what everyone else is doing :)

Monthly Reminder - Backup our Pictures and Videos

I want to send out a quick monthly reminder to myself (I can't be the only one who forgets ??) to backup my photos and videos.

It's really easy to do in Memory Manager 3. Just hit the button, and feed in the DVDs or attach the external hard drive.

My computer crashed in Oct. 2009. It wasn't pretty, but I got my photos back. It would have been easier to have a handy complete backup! lol

Fast and Easy Gift Envelopes for Stamps, Gift Cards, etc.

I am posting this a bit late for 2010, but maybe in 2011 someone will find this idea helpful. Or if you are making gifts on Christmas Eve, this is just in time! lol

This project makes a gift envelope for a set of stamps, or a gift card. These gift envelopes will fit into standard small business size envelopes Size 6 ¾. The small business size envelopes are widely available (Wal Mart, Target, Dollar Tree, etc.).

For this project:

If you start with a 12x12 piece of cardstock, it will make 2 gift envelopes. Each envelope is 6” wide. I made my envelopes 3.5” tall, because my decorations are sleek. If you like “chunky” decoration, follow the directions to make a 3.25” tall envelope. The extra ¼” will help it fit into the standard size envelopes.

Here are the steps I used to make this gift stamp envelope:

1) Start with a 12x12 piece of cardstock. Medium to light weight cardstock is best.

2) Cut the paper to be 8” x 12” by cutting off a 4” strip. (This 4” x 12” strip can be cut to 4” x 11” and made into a card very close to the A2 size card).

I use my Creative Memories rotary trimmer to cut the cardstock and paper. I use the straight blade for the envelopes, and use the wavy blade to make the envelope labels.

3) Cut the 8” x 12” paper in half so you have 2 pieces that are 8” x 6”. Now you have the start of 2 envelopes.

4) Find your favorite scoring tool. I like my Martha Stewart score board because it holds paper snuggly on 2 sides, but for storage space this tool is a luxury. You can use the scoring blade on your rotary trimmer instead. Or use a bone folder and your trimmer.

5) Place the 8” side on the tool as the side you want to score. You want to score at 2” and 5.5” if your envelope decorations are “sleek”. If you want to decorate “chunky” style – score at 5.25” instead of 5.5”. It will help the envelope fit into the standard size outer small business envelope.

6) Fold at the score marks so the folds overlap each other. The shorter 2” fold will hold the stamps or gift card. The overlap 2.5” flap will be the envelope flap.

7) Use a sturdy glue on the 2” flap to secure it in place. I recommend ATG tape or a very strong tape. Focus on staying close to the paper edges.

8) Check at this point to make sure your gift fits inside the envelope!

9) Use a corner rounder to make the edges of the envelope flap look polished.

10) Decorate the front of the envelope – Scrap your Stash!

11) I used my Creative Memories Black and White Power Palette paper – Storybox collection. This was left from the beautiful Valentines Day Card project 2010. You can see an example from the Valentine’s Day Project here:

12) To make the front pattern paper decoration rectangles – start with a CM storybox photomat which is 4.5” x 6.5”. Cut the mat down to 3” x 6.5”. Cut this piece again in half. You will have 2 rectangles that are 3” x 3.25”.

13) Use a corner rounder to shape 2 or all paper edges. I chose to round 2 of the 4 edges, I picked 2 diagonal edges.

14) I also used self adhesive rhinestones I had left over from this year’s projects. Be creative and clear out your scrapbook junk drawer!

15) You can secure the gift envelope closed. Maybe use a decorated punched circle, or square that is edged like the front of the envelope. Or just leave it open, for easy re-gifting.

16) Address the outer envelope with “to” and “from”. I am sharing my envelope labels. I made them with CM Storybook Creator Software and the CM Frost Digital Kit. I colored in the ornament with my CM Silver pen and filled in the inside of the ornament with Red Stickles.

Cricut, SCAL (Sure Cuts A Lot) and Monogram Stickers

If you read my blog or watch a video or 2 on youtube you know I own a Cricut. I don’t remember if I published I own “Sure Cuts A lot” or SCAL as well. In my Fall Bordermania border videos I show western letters I made using SCAL. SCAL is easy to use, once I got it installed. That is another story.

I own SCAL and a Cricut, together at a significant cost. So I figured I would not but letter stickers but make my own. Now I am making my 1st set to make monogram tags for the holidays 2010.

My first project is to make CM Simple Monogram stickers, so I can get a look similar to Martha Stewart products. Currently, my favorite font for this letter type is “Alte Haas Grotesk” font. It is a free download from dafont.com. I have not done a full comparison to see if it is exactly like the CM Simple Monogram font.

I spent last night cutting letters. I set SCAL 2.0 font to 2 inches and made a full set of letters. I didn’t realize until 2 hours later that setting SCAL to 2 inches for a font does not cut 2 inch letters! I cut 5 sheets and all the letters are 1.5”! UGH!!!

So today I cut Alte Haas Grotesk at these settings:

Simple Monogram Letters 2” – cut this font at 2.8”.

Simple ABC stickers ¾” – cut this font at 1.1”.

I used the ruler on the screen on the SCAL interface to get the size correct. It is hard to see sizes between inches unless I zoom in closer. I was happy enough just to guessimate it. If my font stickers are 0.8” instead of 0.75”. The monogram stickers are exactly 2” (well ok maybe 1.99” or 2.01” – you can fine tune your settings lol)

So I’ll spend another 2 hours cutting monogram letters. At least they look very nice on the tags – a very “Martha Stewart” look. Even if Alte Haas Grotesk is the wrong font for the simple monogram – it is a very nice font, I really like it!

Would I recommend getting a Cricut and SCAL over buying stickers?
I will have a 2 sets of monograms after 5 hours work (SCAL 2.0 is slow and have to make the cutting files first). $300 into supplies (Cricut, SCAL, mats, blades, paper). I’ll be down to $150 per monogram set by the end of the day. If 2 sets of monogram stickers cost $20 I have paid myself $5 per hour to work. Or am I down $145 per hour? Lol Ignorance is bliss here I think! Esp. since the project I wanted to work on isn’t _started_ yet because I need to make letters.

For completeness and my future sanity, I’ll list all my current font ideas for Creative Memories letter stickers. All 3 fonts are free for download at dafont.com.

How to punch any length tag with Tag Maker Punch

Hello and Welcome!

In this post (and a video is available, see the bottom) I show how to punch any length tag using the Creative Memories Tag Maker punch. This technique should work for all kinds of tag punches, not just this one.

(This punch is available for sale on my CM consultant website - click on the CM logo on the right hand side of my blog).

1) Figure out the width of your tag the tag punch makes. The Creative Memories Tag Maker punch I show makes tags that are 2” wide. (Full regular tag size is 2” x 3”)

2) Cut the paper you want to punch to the same width as the punch. So I cut my cardstock to 2” wide for the Tag Maker punch.

3) Turn the punch over so you can see the opening.

4) Feed the paper into the punch.

5) Pull the paper through the punch until the cardstock at the back end of the punch “falls out”.

6) Pull the cardstock out through the punch opening. Align the paper with the top of the punch until you like where it is.

7) Punch! The front or top part of the tag will punch, not the bottom.

8) Feed the paper in again to punch the bottom of the tag. Pull out the cardstock at the top of tag so it won’t punch again. How long do you want your tag to be? The limit is your cardstock paper size!

9) You can punch to tops instead of a top and bottom, or 2 bottoms? Your choice!

I hope you can get more use out of your Tag Maker punch. I know I am! Lol

Storybook Creator Software has its own Internet Cafe - Pixel 2 Pages

Hello! I just found out about an "internet cafe" for the Storybook Creator software. Very exciting!

Pixel 2 Pages does not sell Storybook Creator digital scrapbook software - the program is created and sold by Creative Memories and its consultants (me for example! lol). What Pixel 2 Pages does is provide webinars, tutorials, templates, classes for the Storybook Creator software. They can show you how great SBC software can work for you. Pixel 2 Pages has permission from Creative Memories to operate, and several of their designers are or were CM Consultants.
I use the Storybook Creator 3.0 software to not only make scrapbooks, but also on my blog and in my youtube videos.

I read on my consultant chat boards that once people see what the program can do, they are excited to buy SBC 3.0. I can see why. I can use Photoshop professional version, and it's a great program. But SBC 3.0 is easy. Storybook Creator can't do everything Photoshop can do, but I don't miss the extra features 95% of the time. SBC 3.0 is like the "Cricut Expression" of digital scrapbooking., and is like a "Plug-in and play" system. Photoshop has many _excellent_ features, but one of those great features is not fast beginner learning curve! lol

I made a cutting guide for the 3 circle templates in the Creative Memories Custom Cutting System. I have used this cutting guide all year and found it very helpful. My original version is not very pretty – just my writing on an index card.

I used Storybook Creator Software to make 2 colorful and bright versions, and they are both free to download! The 2 sizes are 4x6 and 8x8 inches. You can upload to a photo developer. Make copies as a gift for your Scrapbooking friends!

The background paper is the new Creative Memories Cheerful digital paper collection. I chose _bright_ so the guide would be easy to find even in the midst of a huge Scrapbooking session. 

The list includes the 5 missing cut sizes that CM CCS circle do not cut:

1 5/8”, 2 5/8”, 3 5/8”, 4 5/8” and 5 5/8”. If you can find punches or dies that are these sizes you will be able to cut every circle from 7/8” to 6 3/8” in ¼” size increments. Even a 1.5”, 2.5”, 3.5”, 4.5” and 5.5” punch will do. Or use your Cricut or die cutting system.

Sagittarius Birthday Card

Hello and welcome to my first astrology card. I am partnered with AsnwersintheSky.com and I plan to make card for each sun sign.

The sun is currently in the sign of Sagittarius, the 9th zodiac sign and in the season of Fall.
The colors of Sagittarius are Sea Green, Turquiose, Blue, Purple, Ash-color and a mixed yellow and green. These are the colors of the Creative Memories Reminisce Paper Line. The papers have a vintage Fall look and they work great for Sagittarius!

I made the card project for Answers in the Sky using Storybook Creator Software and the Reminisce Digital Kit. I am sharing 2 4x6 photographs so you can print them and make this project just like I did!

2) Create a base card or postcard. Beginners can see this video and blog post for more information:

3) Trim the card background from 4x6 photo size to 3.25” x 5.75”. Trim ¼” off the right hand side, then trim 0.75” off the bottom. This measurements may not be correct depending on where you get your photos developed. I assume a “real” 4x6 size to start.

4) Use a paper piercer or thumb tack to make holes in the dots on the I in the birthday and the 1st I in Sagitarrius.

5) Use 2 tin color mini brads to dot the I s above.

6) Glue your purple card base onto your card.

7) Photograph #2 has all the pieces for your Sagittarius icon. Cut out the pieces using a pair of scissors.

8) Use foam squares to attach the triangles for the arrow tip and also use foam squares to attach the 2 pieces that make the cross on the arrow.

9) Adhere the arrow tip and base. Do not attach the cross piece yet.

10) Check how the cross will fit onto the card. You want the cross piece to fit around the pre-printed words.

11) Adhere full arrow and cross piece to the card base.

12) Add stars – as many as you want and where you want.

13) Use bling to brighten up the card. I used yellow, brown and blue rhinestones – inspired by the Birth Stones of yellow, brown and blue Topaz.

14) Add bling to the center of the arrow cross and the stars.

15) I also blinged the I dot for the 2nd I in Sagitarrius.

16) Your card is ready to send. Happy Birthday, Sagittarius!

Church Punch Art Card

Hello and Welcome!

This blog entry and video shows how to make a casual card using a church punch art tag. Add snow to the church for the Christmas Season! It will make a great gift tag.

The card size fits into a standard small business envelope. The card size in this video is 3.5” x 6”.

About the Church Punch Art:

A *smart* crafter left me a comment on the school house tag video that the school house is very close to a church building. Thank you for the great idea!

On the Paper Jewels Blog, she points out the Creative Memories Geometric Multi Maker makes the best windows. She was making haunted houses. But great windows work on churches and school houses too.

So I combined the 2 ideas, added a sun punch art and now I am really happy w/ the punch art scenes.

Add snow to the church for the Christmas Season. It will make a great gift tag.
Punch Art Tag Card:

Same ingredients as the School House Punch Art - AND add Scallop Circle Maker and the Creative Memories Geometric Multi Maker Punch.

1) Card base (see video) 3.5” x 6” white cardstock.

2) Make the church base like the school house base. Use white cardstock instead of red. Make the steeple larger. The School House video is here:

3) CM Geometric Multi Maker – punch black and yellow (gold) paper. Use black squares for the windows and cut a cross from the square grid.

4) Use the Scallop Circle Maker punch to make the scallop circle and circle for the sun.

5) Use the Galaxy Maker to punch 2 stars. Layer and glue rotated together. Glue large circle on top.

6) Glue 3 black windows and black and yellow cross on top of the building

7) Blue paper is 2” x 6” long. Blue striped paper 6” long – cut width so you like the stripes. Glue yellow scallop circle behind paper – show as many punched circles as you can.

8) Write “peace be with you” on a ¾” x 3.5” piece of paper with black writing marker. Glue on behind church tag.

This video and blog entry shows how to make a casual card using a punch art tag. The card size fits into a standard small business envelope. The card size in this video is 3.5” x 6”.

Small business ( or commercial ) envelopes are readily available in my home and at the stores – even Sams Club, Wal Mart, dollar stores, etc. These small or commercial business envelopes, No. 6 ¾ (who made up that size?) and have a size of 3 3/8” x 6 ½”.

I have a box of 80 security envelopes by Mead (security – tinted color inside) for 88 cents. Easy to find, I have 2-3 boxes in my house all the time.

Punch Art Tag Card:

1) Card base (see link above)

2) Red Pattern paper (or solid) 3” x 4.5”. All pattern paper is Creative Memories, the Everyday Power Palette. This paper is discontinued. I’m using up my left over pieces of scrapbook paper to make cards.

3) Blue paper 1” x 3”.

4) Stamps by Paper Studio (Hobby Lobby) and is called “Greetings”

5) Fluid Chalk ink! Brown color. The only type of ink that always works with clear acrylic stamps. (not sure about photo polymer – that’s another topic )

6) White brad from American Crafts. And office type gold brad would work too.

1st - Design Credit - not me! – by the Creative Memories Project Center and the new Fall/Winter catalog. (I added the tag )

1) Paper is from Everyday Power Palette - retired.

2) Punches - Tag Maker, Galaxy Maker Punch and Paper Trimmer, Square punch optional.

Ingredients:

Square Maker (I used Paper Trimmer for squares)

Tag Maker Punch

Galaxy Micro Maker

Cutter Bee Scissors

Personal Trimmer

Cranberry Cardstock

Gold Cardstock

Black Cardstock

Everyday Power Palette – Blue, Green

Foam Squares US

Precision Point Adhesive US

Directions from CM Project Center - How to Create:

Using the Square Maker, punch a 1-1/2” square from Cranberry Cardstock.

Using a pencil, draw a point at the halfway point of one side of the square. Trim each side of the square at a diagonal to the point to create the roof of the school house.

Punch (2) 1-1/4” squares from Cranberry Cardstock. Trim each square down for the doors and for the highest smaller stacked roof.

Using the Personal Trimmer, cut 4 thin strips from Black Cardstock. Cut each end at an angle to create the black trim of the roofs. Using the All-Purpose Scissors, cut a small scrap of gold cardstock for the bell. Adhere everything together with Precision Point Adhesive.

Use Foam Squares to adhere the doors to create dimension.

Using the Galaxy Micro Maker, punch out (4) green splats and adhere to the school house.

How to Create:

Using the Circle Maker, punch (2) 1-1/2" circles from Brown Cardstock. Using Foam Squares, adhere one circle on top of the other.

Using the CCS Small Circle Pattern (inside of template) and the Blue Blade, cut (3) circles from Brown Cardstock.

Adhere (2) of the smaller circles behind one of the large circles for legs of turkey. Adhere the 3rd smaller circle with a Foam Square on top, front of the other large circle for the turkey's head.

Using the Sweet Heart Maker, punch (1) heart from Brick Cardstock. Adhere the smaller, punched out heart upside down on turkey’s face.

Using the All-Purpose Scissors, trim a triangle beak from Gold Cardstock. Adhere to the face. ( I trimmed a beak from a ¾” yellow circle. )

Doodle, drawing black eyes.

Using the Galaxy Micro Maker, punch (2) stars from Gold Cardstock for feet and adhere to legs. ( In the video, I used the Dragonfly Maker to make feet)

Using the Sweetheart Maker, punch hearts; (3) from Carrot Cardstock, (4) from Gold Cardstock, (3) from Green Apple Cardstock, and (5) from Brick Cardstock. Arrange and adhere behind the turkey. Some will be upside down and others will be right side up.

Finished Size: 3" x 3"

How to Organize a Photo Album - Fast! Great Gift Idea!

Hello! It is time to start thinking about Holiday gifts. Mini albums make a wonderful, personalized gift. And they can be fast to make!

Do you have 8-20 photos from a trip, visit that you want to give to a friend or family member, but wish it would look just a little nicer as a gift? Or a way to share an event with famiy that looks great?

You can make it into a mini book in less than 2 hours, including the time it takes to select and print your photos! Honest!

The trick is to design the whole book as 1 project. In this video , I use the "power sort" technique to organize the whole book. Easy and fast.

And for that special gift for a shared visit, trip , etc. makes your photos look GREAT.

The kit is by Creative Memories. There are many different paper album kits available for purchase. This is the Escapes Album kit.

The album is a standard 8 x 8 inch size. The album has 12 pages. You can also decorate the covers inside and outside. The papers in the kit are 1/32” smaller than the pages. They fit in the album and do NOT show a white border (very close fit).

The kit contains 16 - 4.5 x 6.5 inch photo mats. 8 different colors.

The papers has 2 different style sides that can be used in 4 different orientations. The paper itself has a white core. The paper is a heavy weight, good quality.

The kit contains a sheet of page titles and are brown.

The kit contains a sheet of cardstock stickers. The stickers are pre-cut. Just peel and stick.

Pumpkin Patch Layout - Feed the Goats

Hello. This is a page idea to use for the pumpkin patch. This page shows children feeding the goats on the farm.

Some details:

This video shows a scrapbook layout at a pumpkin patch. At the end of the hayride,
The children can feed the farm animals – pumpkins! The boys love to see the pumpkins explode when they toss them into the animal pens.

Note: I am getting better photos developed, but had these to plan my page.

Border Idea from “Fast Formulas” by Creative Memories - used the Bits and Pieces idea for a border. What do farm animals get to eat? Bits and pieces of food! So the idea works for this topic.

I used all the border pieces I had left from the Croptoberfest borders and papers to make a crazy quilt border and photograph mats

The Fall Leaf Punch was great for making the border pieces looked finished.

The title was made with the Basic Font from the Cheerful Seasons Cricut Cartridge.

I used brown cardstock for the page border and lettering. If I used brown ink to distress the embellishments, the ink and paper background will co-ordinate.

I cut a small pumpkin from the Cricut Cheerful Seasons also. I removed most of the vine so it looks better with the page.

Other pieces of cardstock in Cranberry, Apple Green, Gold, Orange.

Oak Leaves and Acorns - Cheerful Seasons Cricut Cartridge

In this video I show the Cheerful Seasons acorn and oak leaves die cuts.

Here are the details:

I make the cuts on the Cricut Expression.

The paper for each layer matches the handbook, so it is easy to see the different layers.

The layers are separately and then layered together.

The Size Dial is set at 3”.

Colors:

1. The shadow is green (Cactus).

2. The base cut is orange (Carrot). This is the color that covers over the shadow. This cut provides the vien color for the leaves.

3. The red is the color for the leaves. The leaves have the viens cut out to show the base underneath.

4. The brown is for the top of the acorns only. It is the smallest cut.

For a 3” Dial Size, I thought the cut was “small”.

Hayride Scrapbook Layout - Creative Memories Grip and Clip Tool

This video (CM # 124 ) shows a scrapbook layout or page for a Hayride at a pumpkin patch. I show pictures of my boys (children) and me. I actually took my own picture because I never have pictures of me there! Lol
I decided to use the Creative Memories Grip and Clip Tool. Available October 1st, 2010.

Here are some details:
1)I used it to hold 3 photographs and a piece of pattern paper from the CM Croptoberfest paper line of 2010.
Note: The results look better when all photograps are potrait or landscape, not a mix like I do here.

2) I used the Jumbo Circle from the Custom Cutting System and cut the edges of the paper and photographs. I used the red blade.

3) I cut a frame using the green blade. I cut a piece of green cardstock.

4) I placed the photos on the green circle, then the green circle on my 12 x 12 scrapbook page.

5) I used a cardstock green, yellow, orange, red tree border and a piece of apple green cardstock as a border across the bottom of the page.
6) Add other embellishments.

7) Add title made from the Cricut and Cheerful Seasons cartridge -- Hayride.

The Hayride Title is cut in the following video CM # 124. This video shows what the Material Saver button on the Cricut does to the lettering I cut.

Maple Leaves - Cheerful Seasons Cricut Cartridge

Today's post is to show the Maple Leaves in the fall section of the Cheerful Seasons cartridge. These leaves can also be made in green for spring and summer :) So very versatile.

I do like this layered cut very much!!

What I learned:

1) The result was small compared to what I expected. Think about adding 1/2" to what you think should cut.

2) There are many different ways to layer the cuts. Even with pop up dimensionals. :)

Cricut Tip - How to Add or Replace a Cricut Blade

Hello. This is a short video I have on youtube that shows how to add or replace a blade in a Cricut machine.

It is a good idea to change your blade before starting any project that is important to you. A dull blade will start to give ragged edges to your cuts.

Ragged cuts can be saved by sanding or using scissors to clean up the edges. So when to change your blade is really a personal preference. It depends on how good you want your cuts to look without having to do additional work.

Wheelbarrow of leaves - Cheerful Seasons Cricut Cartridge

In this post I wanted to show the wheelbarrow die cut. This is a large cut, I suggest over 3 inches. The wheel barrow is large, but the details are small :)

Don't let the leaves scare you, the layers are easy to glue! Most of those leaves are 1 piece of paper.

There are 3 loose leaves that glue by themselves, but that's it. Quick and easy!!! :)

Fall Scrapbook Layout - Sweet Boy and Snapshots

I made photo album pages for my youngest son, who never sits still for a photograph or says cheese - until last year. I was so happy to get the pictures "sweet!" and he is a sweet boy too. So I used the Croptoberfest apple border and papers on his album page.

For this layout I used:

Fall Bird Cut - Cheerful Seaons Cricut Cartridge

Hello! Happy Thursday :) Thursdays are great days - I finally feel like I am in the swing of things for the week. And then Friday comes! too funny.

Today I wanted to show the Fall Bird cut from the Creative Memories Cheerful Seasons cartridge. The lines are simply gorgeous.

OK before I can describe it - it is better to see it! lol

The green shadow WILL cut to the end - I didn't put enough paper in. Since it is easy to see, I didn't recut it. These are just sample cuts only.

This picture shows all the layers:

What I did learn:

1) Do you not care about the bird and ring detail? Go ahead an cut down to 1.5" in size.

2) Do you really want to see the bird? Consider cutting larger than 2.75". Here at 3" the bird looks so cute. BUT the rings under the bird are tiny circles! No rings here ;)

Fall Bushel of Apples - Cheerful Seasons Cricut Cartridge

The new releases from Creative Memories are keeping me very busy! But the new products are great. Many of the new items I really like for myself. That is always a good sign! lol

Today I wanted to show the cuts made by the apple bushel on the Cheerful Seasons Cricut Cartridge.
Very cute! The apples layer "onto themselves" for lots of detail, but all it take is one piece to glue down. I like that!

I would suggest cutting this figure at 2.5" or larger. The leaves and stems on the apples are small compared to the bushel. At smaller sizes, forget those little pieces! A marker will work better and faster :)

How to Make Your Photograph into a Puzzle (Puzzle Maker Punch)

Welcome back Monday :)

How to Turn a Photograph into a puzzle - using a punch! I can not find the Creative Memories directions online (even the consultant website. I have heard rumors it is there! lol) When I find it I will share – I hope to learn some tips and tricks. So this is my version of how to do the project.

What I liked to use:

1) Creative Memories Puzzle Maker

2) 2 copies of the same photo (optional)

3) Removable Glue Dots

4) Plastic Lunch Bag (to hold pieces on or in)

5) Pencil, marker or pen to mark the backside of the photo (optional)

6) A Puzzle Maker Punch Guide I made

Tips:

1) Use a photo that is a close-up, with big patches of color. If you do this, small errors have little impact.

2) When you punch, the 1st priority for alignment is for the real photo edges. This method stops the propagation of errors into 1 spot and spreads out small areas over several spots. The errors are less noticeable this way.

3) The punch CM puzzle maker is 100% symmetrical. You can feed in the paper with the front or back on top it will work.

4) Do not punch the center puzzle pieces, just cut them apart. Or leave the center 2 pieces attached as a hint! (Esp. if there is a person centered on there lol)

5) To me, vertical alignment means tabs on the top and bottom, and holes on the side. Like a tall rectangle. To me, horizontal aligment is tabs on the side and holes on the top and bottom.

6) If you punch the same photograph twice, the second photograph will look nicer. Practice makes perfect!

Apple Die Cut - Cheerful Seaons Cricut Cartridge

Hi, Happy October! This month really says fall to me. Despite the desert weather we have, HOT! lol

Today I wanted to show the apple cuts from the Cheerful Seasons Cricut cartridge. Very cute! It reminds me of New England and fall apples fresh from the orchard. They taste pretty good!

And today is Cropoberfest! The Bright Autumn Digital and Addition kits have this same apple. Great colors and patterns for our fall activities.

Hello :) Welcome to my online Croptoberfest week.
In this video, I show the Croptoberfest products the Creative Memories designed just for this event.

There are 16 photo mats. 4 of each color - red/cranberry, green, Apple Green, yellow. Each paper has a monochromacitc side, and a multi color side on the back. It is white core paper, but a nice thickness.

There are also a set of 4 colorful 12" die cut strips. The cutting is very nice and professional! You can use these strips many ways on a scrapbook page or greeting card. Videos will follow :)

Thankful Thanksgiving Feathers - Page Title or Greeting Card

Happy Monday! September is almost over, wow this year flew by. :)

I already posted a feather video and post. I used this feather along with another cut from Cheerful Seaons, called "Thankful". This would be a great card or a page title.

I used the Cheerful Papers from the Creative Memories Digital kit. I had it developed at Walgreens, and the store machine changed the colors a bit. BUT the colors still work together :)

I cut 1 extra circle for thankful. And used the digital kit and my Storybook Creator 3.0 software to make my "own" paper. I wrote "thankful" on the paper and printed it out. Since I had to go to Walgreens anyway :)

I am updating my blog. Creative Memories has requirements for their consultant blogs. I am also listening to webinars from CM so I can learn how to blog and Facebook to company standards. This is very creative work for me because it is all so foreign to me! lol

I was busy on youtube this month. Lots of new Creative Memories products, and still more to come.

Hi! I have been working on the cricut this week, yeah! I'm also using the Creative Memories Wishful border kit. It seems to co-ordinate nicely with the Jubilee cartridge. Jubilee has tall, thin letters so keep your pen point adhesive or Xyron sticker maker close by! lol

CM Ribbon Storage - the package itself! :)

Hi, someone had a question about my ribbon storage. I showed the ribbon on the table in my 1st Simply Beautiful Card video here on youtube - CM #79 .

My ribbon storage is pretty neat. It actually is, now that I learned how to use it correctly (it is easy!) I like it alot. Trick is - the packaging IS the storage system.

Here is a picture of the CM ribbons - you can keep the ribbon in the container until you use it. To use just pull the ribbon end out of the back - like a baby wipe container. Cut to desired length. Then the rest of your ribbon stays clean, compact.

I hope to show this a short video soon :).

Hello! I have a sneak peek for a Birthday card I am publishing on youtube.com.

I used my StoryBook Creator 3.0 software to make a printout for the inside of the card. Then I uploaded it to photobucket. The font matches (roughly) the Jubilee Cricut Cartridge I used to make the card.

Hi :). I joined in at Paper Crafts challange Sketch #60. I loved the design, it is simple and will work great with the Color Cube Customer Gift! No doubt we have all made 2-3 scrapbook pages with the gift and now we have some "leftover" sheets to use. And it is really nice to have cards that are ready to use. :)

Brads - a quick and easy demonstration

Hi, in this video I show how to use brads to attach a piece of vellum to a piece of decorative paper. Brads are my favorite method to do this (but there are many ways to get the job done of course!).

In this video, I use a thumb tack and mouse pad to set 3 brads. I show how it's easiest to anchor the papers together first with tape. I do own paper piercing tools (other than a thumb tack) - you can see those options in my previous video.
